Zum Thema: The participation of Greece in the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London
The Great Exhibition of 1851 in London was a major international event, an encyclopedic attempt to sum up the progress of the world so far. It had particular social and political motives, but was also meant to educate and entertain. Greece took part in the Great Exhibition seeking to consolidate itself as a modern country and achieve recognition from its European protectors, following national independence that was achieved in the early 1830s. Although the participation of the young Greek statewas very modest, it was at the same time a remarkable event that triggered various reactions and generated interest in the design, manufacturing, and promotion of industrialgoods.
