Support the work of the Professorship for Modern Greek Studies at the Department for Byzantine Studies, Byzantine Art History and Modern Greek Studies at LMU Munich

The Stiftung Neugriechische Studien is the first Foundation of its kind in Germany. It aims to support the study and promotion of Modern Greek culture, language, literature, art and history in academic contexts and to present public programs reflecting and celebrating the importance and diversity of Greek and Cypriot culture with a special focus on the Greek Diaspora.

About us

Who we are

The Stiftung Neugriechische Studien is a non-profit Humanities organization (Arts, Culture and Humanities), founded in 2020 at Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich. The Foundation is a wide network of people who are united in their desire to contribute to a set of shared charitable causes grounded on a tradition of volunteering and contribution to cultural-educational projects.

What we do

The Stiftung Neugriechische Studien was founded with the mission to advance science and promote Greek Language and Modern Greek philosophy and culture. The Foundation is particularly interested in supporting and highlighting cultural projects with a special focus on the Greek Diaspora, Greek-German and Greek-European relationships, as well as advancing new ways of communicating and learning about Greece, open for a wider public (in the sense of citizen science). To this end, the foundation embraces the use of new technologies, like Augmented Reality, educational and tourist applications, podcasts and digital 360* views of monuments.

In this framework, the Foundation, with the help of our members, aspires to make significant contributions to a wide range of scientific fields, including the study of the Greek language itself, the teaching of Greek as a foreign/second language, Greek culture, heritage, art and history.

Join now

As a Friend of the Foundation, you can help the Foundation to continue its work in supporting academic and cultural events that share the importance, beauty and relevance of Greek and Cypriot culture. Your contribution supports the multiple activities of the Foundation, including:

--Stiftung Neugriechische Studien Grants: Short term research grants for students, pre- and postdocs and researchers.

One of the fundamental reasons identified by the Foundation for the falling numbers of Modern Greek students at third-stage levels today, is the high cost of education.

The Foundation’s core principle is to alleviate that cost and to encourage students to study Modern Greek Studies in Munich, as well as to assist young researchers making accessible core archival material from the University Library of Munich, the Staatsbibliothek of Bavaria, the Stadtarchiv Munich and other archives or museums.
